Doug Shimell is an Emmy-nominated news reporter, who has been with NBC 10 News at 11PM since 1995. Shimell also worked a political reporter for KFOR-TV in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Shimell’s nightly stories on NBC10 have been responsible for a new law that protects against identity theft, the arrests of scam contractors and shutting down inhumane puppy mill pet stores.
Shimell’s coverage of the high profile “Tom Capano-Anne Marie Fahey” murder case brought him national attention on MSNBC and NBC’s “Today” Show. In addition, his 4-hour live breaking news coverage of the verdict garnered an Emmy nomination. Shimell’s coverage is also noted in one of the many books written about the case.
In another nationwide news event, Shimell’s exclusive reports of the “Amy Grossberg-Brian Peterson” infant murder case changed the complexion of the investigation.

His stories on the illegal Mexican diet pill trade resulted in an FDA ban on certain drugs as well as his reports on political corruption in Texas brought arrests and resignations. While working as a political reporter in Oklahoma, Shimell’s story on illegal campaign contributions to an Oklahoma governor made him the object of a “State of the State” speech and ultimately led to the Governor’s resignation.
Shimell’s work has been acknowledged with awards from the Associated Press, Society of Professional Journalists, National Press Photographers Association, The Livingston Awards and numerous local press club honors.
Born in New Rochelle, New York, Shimell grew up in Connecticut. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Journalism.
