Phillies pitcher Scott Eyre will be brinnging his goatee (we hope) back to the team in 2009.

Ruben Amaro Jr. has been stressing pitching since taking on the Phillies GM duties.

Monday Amaro put his money where his mouth is by locking down a key Phillies bullpen contributor -- Scott Eyre

Eyre has signed a one-year contract extension with the Phils worth $2 million and includes performance bonuses, according to the team.

The goateed left-handed reliever, appeared in 19 games for the 2008 World Champion Phils after being acquired from the Chicago Cubs in early August.

He filled the valuable roll of being a lefty specialist for Charlie Manuel's Phils. This allowed Manuel to use his other lefty reliever J.C. Romero in longer relief especially in the playoffs.

Eyre, 36, went 3-0 with a 1.88 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 14.1 innings with the Phils. Including his time with the Cubs, Eyre was 5-0 with an 11.2 strikeouts per inning rate.

Eyre has pitches in 575 games for five teams including the Phillies.
