I was down the Ocean City shore in New Jersey, Corsons Inlet on Sunday photographing the wave and surfers. When I got back home to veiw the pics on my computer, I noticed something odd in the back ground so I enlarge the photo, and there it was a "submarine" had surfaced. This was really close to the shoreline. This cant be normal??

Judging my the proximity to the horizon, I would say he was just over the 3 Mile Mark, off shore. That means it's in International Waters and not in violation of any treaties. All nations can operate and run drills that close. In fact it does not appear to be a submarine at all. More likely some sort of barge just offshore. The pictured vessel lacks the prominant sail [or superstructure] found on a submarine and it has added projections both from the sides and up from the "deck" that would not be found on a submarine. That is one of the barges being used in the dredging/beach replenishment in Strathmere. It's located just off the point in Strathmere. The larger boats were taken away because of the hurricane. Sunday was a misty day which perhaps explains why the photographer didn't notice the barge at first. Though it was quite visible to me all day. I KNOW Russian, Chinese, Nkorean etc Subs. That is NOT a submarine. Although yes, Russian subs have been off our coasts for years/decades, this isnt one of them. I've seen the cleaned up image - 100% positive its something else. IF a foreign sub got that close.. our Navy ASW guys would flap on it and do an active prosecution to get them OUT. ...thats not a pleasant experience for a submariner when we go active (done it).
