Is your school environmentally conscious?
Two local schools (one high school and one middle school) will be awarded the 2012 Environmental Community Service Award presented by Wawa, NBC10 and the environmental law firm Manko, Gold, Katcher & Fox, LLP.
These companies want to be green with envy of the school clubs, classrooms or teams that establish the most worthwhile environmental community service school project that establishes a “connection to your community.”
The criteria for projects includes, but is not limited to: establishing awareness of our natural and historic resources, and/or promoting community service that focuses on environmental and quality of life issues, according to organizers.
The best part is that each winning school will get their hands on some green. A $5,000 honorarium will be given to further the school’s environmental programs.
Past winning projects included linking hydroponics, aquaculture and alternative energy, an art garden, using gardening and turbines to go green and park clean ups.
Here are some basic requirements schools must meet to enter:
Judges from the Wawa, NBC10, Manko, Gold, Kather & Fox, LLP, The Franklin Institute, Academy of Natural Sciences, the Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center and representatives from Pennsylvania and New Jersey's Department of Environment Protection and Delaware's Department of Natural Resources and Environment Control will review the applications and select the winners.
The winners will be announced around Earth Day on April 22, 2012.
