First it was Cherie Bank. Then, Mike Strug. Now we lose another one of our finest to retirement-- NBC 10's John Blunt will sign off for the last time on Wednesday.

He is certainly one of the most respected television journalists and we will all surely miss him on-air and behind the scenes.

Before coming to NBC 10, the Philadelphia native served in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1964.

He then got the journalism bug and began reporting and anchoring in the late 1960's in Charlotte, N.C.

But John really began to be a journalistic force when he moved on to Detroit, Mich. where he worked as an anchor/reporter for eight years.

But, he couldn't stay away from Philadelphia forever. He returned home to join NBC 10 in January 1984 -- 25 years later he remained an on-air fixture in Philadelphia homes.

John's presence was also felt off camera -- he was recognized by community organizations and the industry alike. Among his honors was the prestigious Michigan School Bell Award, which he earned for his education reports.

The NBC 10 family remember working with John fondly and we will miss him dearly. We celebrated his career privately and publicly throughout the day Wednesday including an in house party in the morning.

During the afternoon news shows, a series of stories aired looking back at John's work.

John will sign off with his own personal farewell, a story he put together of some of his favorite moments including a run in with a duck and of course some laughs.

We'd love to hear your thoughts or favorite John Blunt memories.
