Mother Killed While Vomiting Out of Minivan Window

Amanda Ezra was sitting on someone's lap in the front passenger seat when her head struck an object, an officer said

A woman was killed in northern Indiana when she struck her head on something while vomiting out the passenger window of a moving minivan, police said.

The woman, identified Sunday as 24-year-old Amanda Ezra, was sitting on someone's lap in the front passenger seat about 4:40 a.m. Sunday when her head struck an object in Osceola, about 10 miles east of South Bend, an official said.

St. Joseph County crash team commander Tim Spencer said the woman had been drinking.

Family members who spoke to WSBT-TV reportedly said Ezra, a mother to three, had recently enrolled in a community college and wanted to be a teacher.

Spencer said the driver of the minivan and another passenger fled, but police later caught them. The driver, a man in his 20s, was arrested and charged preliminarily with leaving the scene and driving while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury.
