Anybody knows that a $1,000 tip on an $80 bill is well beyond the recommended 15 percent gratuity. So what compelled a man visiting a restaurant at a New Jersey Holiday Inn to leave such a hefty tip for his waitress?

According to reports from LehighValleyLive.com, 37-year-old waitress Christina Summitt received a $1,000 tip from a patron who felt sympathy for her dog.

The waitress reportedly got into a discussion with the patron about her Labrador and Great Dane mix who just underwent a surgery, leaving the Harmony Township resident with a nearly $3,000 veterinarian bill.

LehighValleyLive.com spoke with the waitress, a dog lover who volunteers at a pit bull rescue center, about how she felt when she received the substantial tip.
