Trial Ordered for Mom Accused of Trying to Poison Family With Burritos

A judge has ordered an eastern Pennsylvania woman to stand trial on charges she tried to poison her husband and daughter with burritos laced with prescription medicine.

A judge on Tuesday ordered 42-year-old Ann Marie Haines of Lower Macungie Township to stand trial on charges of simple assault, reckless endangerment and related counts.

Investigators say Haines was upset that she hadn't been invited to join her husband and daughter as they went car shopping in May. She allegedly crushed up the medicine and put it in some black-bean burritos that she served to her family.

Her husband and daughter noticed the food tasted funny and later complained of feeling dizzy and tired.

Haines' attorney says his client may seek entry into a rehabilitation program for first-time non-violent offenders.
