Rodent Chews Through Wires, Knocks Out Traffic Signals: Police

Police asked motorists to avoid a busy South Jersey intersection this morning and a critter could be to blame.

Voorhees Township Police urged drivers to avoid the five-point intersection of Haddonfield-Berlin Road (Route 561), E Evesham Road and Somerdale Road after the traffic lights went out Tuesday morning around 5:50.

The problems at the intersection could last through the morning rush. Police said repairs could take hours.

An investigation into the outage led police to believe that some kind of rodent got into the electrical box and chewed through the wires causing the box to catch fire and knocking out the signals.

Crews made repairs and got the traffic signals back online by midday, according to police.
