Missing Rehoboth Beach Lifeguard Stand Washes Up in North Carolina

A lifeguard stand that went missing from Delaware's Rehoboth Beach has been found about 250 miles away on North Carolina's Outer Banks.

Tourists saw the lifeguard stand in the surf near Salvo, North Carolina, and pulled it out over Labor Day weekend.

The chair was one of seven that went missing in early July. Rehoboth Beach Patrol Captain Kent Buckson says the stands, which weigh about 500 pounds, were floated out to the ocean. Officials recovered six chairs; the one found in North Carolina is the last.

It's not clear what will happen to the chair. Buckson says it's covered in barnacles and is rotted.

Capt. Chester Bailey of the Chicamacomico Banks Fire Department says officials will "use it on our beach" if Rehoboth Beach officials don't want it back.
