Police have charged a former cigarette store clerk with stealing nearly $50,000 worth of Pennsylvania lottery scratch-off tickets while she worked.
The (Somerset) Daily-American reports 58-year-old Linda Porter, of Meyersdale, took $300 to $500 worth of tickets each shift she worked between December and July at the Tobacco Alley store in her hometown of Meyersdale.
All told, police say she stole $48,996 worth of tickets, and cashed in an unspecified number of winners.
Police say store surveillance video shows Porter tearing off the tickets from a dispenser, scratching them off and throwing them away while she worked alone during one shift last month.
The Associated Press could not locate a listed phone number for Porter. Online court records don't list an attorney for her, but say she faces a preliminary hearing Aug. 13.
