Owner Comes Forward to Claim Iguana Found at Rita's Water Ice Lot in Collingdale

The owner of a pet Iguana came forward after the owner's "pet" was found in the lot of a Rita’s Water Ice in Collingdale Tuesday afternoon.

The Iguana was found at the Rita’s Water Ice on the 400 block of MacDade Boulevard around 3 p.m. Staff members from the Glenolden Animal Hospital and Collingdale Police secured the pet reptile. The animal hospital cared for the animal as police searched for the owner.

A person claiming to be the owner of the reptile called the animal hospital Wednesday morning and said they had been searching for their "pet" for several days, Collingdale Police said.

Police said the iguana went missing from Roberta Avenue in Collingdale and that the owner hadn't thought to report the disappearance to authorities.

Police planned to interview the iguana's owner to figure out if it was properly kept and if any borough ordinances had been broken.
