Bear Cub Wanders into Pittsburgh Mall

The cub roamed through the electronics section of the store for about 10 minutes

A bear cub wandered into a Pittsburgh mall Saturday night, prompting an evacuation, WTAE of Pittsburgh reported.

No one was hurt in the incident, and the bear was taken away sedated.

The bear ran through a parking lot of the Pittsburgh Mills mall in Frazier, northeast of downtown Pittsburgh, around 9 p.m., according to the Valley News Dispatch.

"It was running up and down the aisles," Matt Marcinik, who was outside the mall's entry 2 near Sears smoking when he saw the bear running around, told the Dispatch. "It darted past several people. They didn't even know it was a bear."

The cub roamed through the store for about 10 minutes before it was chased by cops into a double door at one of its entrances, trapping itself, the mall security director said.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission tranquilized the bear, and carried it out of the store.

Officials said the bear appeared to be around 1 1/2 years old and it had a tracking collar on it, according to WTAE. They could not immediately determine where the bear came from but believe it travelled a far distance.
