Man Armed With Knife Carjacks Ice Cream Truck

Police in Pennsylvania say they're searching for a man who carjacked a Mister Softee ice cream truck while armed with a knife.

WFMZ-TV reports the truck's driver was held up in Reading on Friday afternoon. Investigators say the suspect jumped into the truck, made the driver take him to another area and then grabbed $200 in cash.

Police say the man jumped out of the truck on the 1200 block of Greenwich Street and fled.

The driver wasn't hurt.

“I just think it’s pretty ridiculous. People have no common sense whatsoever and things are just getting out of control here,” area resident Dory Medina told WFMZ.

According to Uniformed Crime Report data from the Pennsylvania State Police, nearly 80 percent of all robberies and more than 63 percent of all assaults in Berks County happened in Reading last year.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Reading Police.
