Bank Robber Gets Stuck in ‘Mantrap:' Police

Delaware State police say a man who robbed a bank was arrested after an employee activated a security device that trapped him between locked doors in the vestibule.

Troopers say a man entered Citizen's Bank at 40 Chestnut Hill Plaza in Newark about 3:30 p.m. Thursday and gave a teller a note demanding money.

Police say the teller gave the man cash and he tried to leave. Officers say bank personnel activated a device called a “mantrap,” which remotely close the interior and exterior doors of the bank.

Troopers say the man became trapped in the vestibule, and damaged the doors and glass trying to escape. He was arrested when police arrived.

Thirty-eight-year-old Stephen Dunfee of New Castle was charged with robbery and criminal mischief.
