Man Flees Accident to Escape Angry Girlfriend: Police

Police in Cumberland County say a man who fled the scene of an auto accident didn't do it for the usual reasons.

They say David Scarpa was having an argument with his girlfriend when he backed into a utility pole. The 21-year-old Vineland man then allegedly took off and didn't report the Sunday night accident immediately.

When Scarpa came to police headquarters to turn himself in on Monday, they say he told them he didn't report the accident right away because he "didn't want to deal with his girlfriend yelling at him."

Police tell The Press of Atlantic City
that Scarpa has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving.
