A Montgomery County man is behind bars accused of attacking his uncle while dressed up as a ninja.
Michael Norley Jr., 29, was arrested Tuesday at his home on E. Lemon Street in Upper Providence, Pa. and charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.
Investigators say Norley’s 57-year-old uncle and former boss was taking out the trash at his home on the 800 block of Sycamore Mills Road Tuesday around 8 a.m. when the incident occurred. Suddenly a man dressed in all black and wearing a helmet and face shield jumped from an area near the trash cans. The “ninja” took out a ball-peen hammer and struck the man in the head, according to investigators.
Officials say the victim fell backwards as the “ninja” continued to strike him with the hammer. The victim ran toward the front of his home but tripped and fell on the steps as the suspect chased after him. Officials say the victim then fought back and kicked the suspect’s helmet, causing it to fall off.
The victim told police he then realized his attacker was Norley, his nephew. Officials say the victim began to scream Norley’s name causing him to run into a wooded area near the home. The screams awoke the victim’s family who ran out of the home and found him bleeding heavily. They then called 911.
The victim was taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center where he was treated for severe head trauma.
Norley was arrested at his home on Tuesday and arraigned on Wednesday. He was remanded to Delaware County prison in lieu of $500,000 cash bail.
Investigators have not yet revealed the motive behind the alleged attacks.
