Man Charged for Flea-Infested Dogs, Alligators Found Inside Home: Police

A North Philadelphia man was cited after investigators found his two flea-infested dogs in front of PSPCA headquarters as well as two alligators inside his home.

The two dogs were found abandoned on Wednesday by PSPCA officials. According to investigators, both dogs were flea-infested and had skin infections from flea bites. One of the dogs was also emaciated. They were taken to the PSPCA’s shelter hospital for evaluation and treatment.

After an investigation, officers tracked down the owner of the dogs, identified as 40-year-old Carl Tyler. After obtaining a search warrant, they entered his home on the 3600 block of North 21st Street.

While inside, investigators say they discovered two alligators that were being unlawfully kept as pets.
The alligators were taken to a shelter on Erie Avenue and will be transferred to a sanctuary next week.

Tyler was cited and charged with cruelty to animals.
