Grinch Allegedly Steals From Kmart, Beats Cop

A simple shoplifting investigation turned violent Christmas Eve morning in Wilmington, Del., according to police.

A Delaware State trooper was called to the Kmart at 4700 Limestone Road around 10:15 to investigate a woman accused of shoplifting.

Kmart employees allegedly saw 41-year-old Annette Shadding and another woman stuffing a bag with hundreds of dollars worth of stocking stuffers, State Police said.

The other woman got away but Shadding was taken into the store’s loss prevention office.

The Wilmington woman was originally cooperative. It wouldn’t last, according to police.

A 29-year-old trooper was going through Shadding’s bag when she tried to grab it back from him. A scuffle ensued and Shadding allegedly went off, police said.

She allegedly punched the trooper multiple times, bit and kicked the trooper. The attack was bad enough to damage the trooper’s uniform, police said.

She was eventually detained. Once authorities finally did get a look inside the bag they supposedly found more than $600 worth of store merchandise, cops said.

She is charged with intentionally trying to injure an officer, resisting arrest, shoplifting, criminal mischief and conspiracy. Shadding was hauled off to jail on $1,500 secured bond.
