More than just books were in the return slot of a Montgomery County library Friday morning.

There was a kitten in the drop box at the LaMott Free Library in Cheltenham Township, Pa.

Two workers from the nearby LaMott Community Center heard purring from the drop box. They alerted library officials and called animal control.

Once they opened up the box they found the tiny guy or gal who was doing all the meowing. The cat was rescued from the drop box and taken to the SPCA.

It still wasn’t clear if the kitten was dropped in the box Thursday night or early Friday. Also, who dropped the kitten off or why was still to be determined.

Officials weren’t sure when the kitten would be up for adoption and weren’t able to give any word on the tiny animal’s condition.
