How Does a Cat Get Stuck Way Up There?

Cat rescued from the top of a city light pole

Stuart Summers took this photograph of a cat that somehow got perched on the very tip of a very, very high pole in his Fairmount neighborhood last weekend.

We got ahold of Stuart who told us the story:

"It was the craziest thing! I believe it started Friday at 10 or so at night. That crazy cat went up the pole. It had to be 150 feet up in the air and the cat's just perched on the very top. It didn't know what to do. Bambrey Street is a really narrow street. I can barely get my car down much less any sort of big rescue truck or equipment. Then of course, it's dark."

The cat, which belongs to a family down the block, according to Stuart, stayed perched atop that pole ALL NIGHT LONG.

"Saturday morning that cat was shivering. It didn't look too good. It looked pretty scared. The SPCA came around 10 or 11 in the morning with a ladder -- a jumbo, gigantic ladder and even that wasn't quite high enough. They had to use a super long pole with a loop on the end of it. It was dangerous for the SPCA guy on the top of that ladder. He was hanging over with that pole and finally he got the loop around the cat's head and carefully lifted the cat off the pole and brought it down."

And what did all the neighbors do?

"The cat was going crazy, flailing and stuff. It was petrified. I'd never seen anything like it. The SPCA guy got a round of applause."

The rescued cat was returned to its owners.
