Half-Blind Horse Loses Tail

Stable mate left unscathed

The horse with no name has nothing on 'Hawk' the horse.

As reported in The Morning Call.com and the Associated Press, trespassers cut off the horse's tail on a property in Whitehall Township, near Allentown, where a Native American couple teach visitors about their culture.

Messina Victoria, whose native name is Flies Strong Woman, says police told her the act could have been a prank or that whoever did it may have wanted to sell the hair, as horse hair sells for as much as $65 a pound.

But Hawk's stable mate, Waziya, was left unscathed during the incident two weeks ago, leading Victoria to suspect there might be a culturally motivated reasoning behind the incident.

A few years ago, someone also hit Hawk with a board, blinding his left eye and knocking out several teeth.

This latest attack is under investigation, though police said no one has come forward with information, according to The Morning Call.com.  No other attacks on livestock have been reported in the township.

Police ask anyone with information to call 610-437-3042.
