A golfer got a handicap of a different kind at a South Carolina golf course.

As the man reached into the course's pond to retrieve a wayward golf ball, a 10-foot alligator jumped out and bit him, the AP reports.

After the agitated alligator pulled the man into the pond, his golf buddies managed to free him, but not before the gator chomped off part of his arm.

Wildlife workers killed the alligator and retrieved the man's arm in hopes it could be reattached.

The unidentified man is being treated at the Medical University of South Carolina but no information about his condition has been released.
