Police in South Jersey went to manβs home Sunday after he posted photos of a needle in Halloween candy to Facebook and told police about the tampering.
Gloucester Township police, however, quickly realized the report of tampered trick-or-treating goodies was a farce and wound up arresting 37-year-old Robert Ledrew.
The Blackwood resident faces a charge of filing a false police report after he claimed to find four sewing needles in separate pieces of candy, said investigators.
The incident appeared to be a copycat situation after sewing needles and pins were found in a half-dozen chocolate bars given out to trick-or-treating children in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, said police.
Police booked and released Ledrew ahead of a future court date.
