Suspended for Cutting Trees During Tree-Cutting Class

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — A Cal Fire forester has had his license revoked for six months because he illegally cut down 73 trees at the Soquel Demonstration State Forest during a chain saw class.

California's Board of Forestry and Fire Protection determined Edgar Orre failed to comply with California Environmental Quality Act when he felled the trees during the 2005 chain saw class. Cutting down trees requires an environmental review.

The board suspended Orre's license to practice forestry for six months and placed him on three years' probation. Orre is still working as assistant forest manager at the demonstration forest.
