Evicted Tenants Try to Torch Former Home: Police

Former tenants apparently upset with eviction tried to torch their former home this morning, according to Philadelphia Police.

A milk jug filled with gasoline, a charred door and police cars marked the scene on the 2000 block of Monmouth Street in the city’s Port Richmond section where officers say the incident happened.

According to investigators, the two suspects were evicted from the property a couple of weeks ago. They returned overnight to try and burn the house down, police said.

Officers on patrol say they witnessed suspicious activity near the scene and saw the fire. Officers were able to put out the flames and chase down the suspects nearby, according to police.

No one was injured and the fire only damaged the front door of the house.

The suspects weren't immediately identified and it's unclear what charges they could face.
