Elderly Man Messes With Drivers by Placing Heavy Bottles Onto Road: Police

Authorities said a 76-year-old man was caught putting weighted soda bottles on a South Jersey roadway so drivers would have to swerve to avoid them.

Ventnor police told The Press of Atlantic City that Robert Grenier faces 19 counts of interference with transportation.

The Ventnor resident was arrested around 4:50 a.m. Friday when a city police officer allegedly saw him put a 2-liter bottle — weighted down with water and trash — in a lane of Atlantic Avenue.

Ventnor Police Chief Michael Miller said there's been a rash of such incidents in the Atlantic County town since September, but a motive has not been determined. He said the bottles were mostly placed on roadways during overnight hours.

It wasn't known Friday if Grenier had retained an attorney.
