A Series of Sneaker Thefts in Delaware

A set of “sneaky” thieves have police in Delaware investigating a string of robberies in Newark and Bear.

New Castle County Police announced Tuesday that they are looking at two cases in recent weeks where teens' Nike sneakers were taken in Weiss Park.

In one case in March, a 13-year-old boy told police two people snuck up from behind, tackled the teen and took his sneakers.

Then last week, a 15-year-old told officers that two people assaulted him in the park, took his sneakers and fled.

In the second case, police say two boys, ages 15 and 16, were arrested and charged and the shoes were returned.

Since they are minors, the boys weren’t identified.

Police are also looking at two cases last week, one in the Kirkwood Knoll neighborhood of Bear and another at Martin Drive and Robert Oakes Drive in Newark, where teens trying to sell Nikes to strangers were robbed.

Police said they are still searching for four young men.
