UDel Student Racks Up Record Haul on “Jeopardy!”

Grad student breaks single-day record, wins $77,000

It’s only normal to watch an episode of Jeopardy! and hate on the person throwing out answers like it’s no big deal. But one can’t help but root for Roger Craig, the 33-year-old computer science graduate student from the University of Delaware.

Heck, the guy even has a facebook fan page

The Newark native set a new record on Tuesday, when he earned an astonishing $77,000, breaking the six-year single-day record of $75,000. At first, Craig had some trouble spelling "Kwai" on his "Bridge on the River Kwai" Final Jeopardy! answer, but that didn't matter. In the end he still tacked on an extra $30,000 in earnings, taking his measley $47,000 and upgrading it to $77,000.

Check out Craig's big moment:

"Breaking Ken Jennings' record is simply amazing," Craig told Fancast. "I knew that I had a chance to set the new record going into Final Jeopardy! so I thought what the heck... I'll go for it."

Craig is a longtime a fan of the show -- auditioning three seperate times for the show before making the cut. He even auditioned for the Teen Tournament a few years back, but didn’t make the cut, said Fancast.

Looks like his luck has turned around and he will defend his title on Wednesday.
