Chester County Hospital Wants to Save Confiscated Wine Slated for Destruction

A suburban Philadelphia hospital wants to save more than 1,000 bottles of expensive wine that the state plans to dump.

The Daily Local News of West Chester reports that Chester County Hospital has filed a petition to sell the wine valued at more than $100,000 to raise money for the nonprofit facility.

Attorney Dawson Muth said state law allows confiscated liquor slated for destruction to be turned over to a hospital. The Liquor Control Board wrote a letter supporting the donation. The state hasn't responded.

Almost 2,500 bottles were confiscated after attorney Arthur Goldman was charged with selling high-end wine from his home cellar in violation of Pennsylvania liquor laws. The state agreed last week that he and his wife could keep 1,047 of the confiscated bottles.
