Firefighters Help Out 5-Year-Old Pennsylvania Boy Climbs 30-Foot Tree

Firefighters had to be called to help a 5-year-old central Pennsylvania boy whose curiosity got the best of him.

Mercedes Jones told WJAC-TV her son, Landon, climbed about 30 feet up into a pine tree in Orchard Park in State College Monday afternoon — and then got a little nervous about climbing back down. His mom said her son "saw a squirrel nest and wanted to see inside of it."

Alpha Fire Chief Jeff Martin climbed up to keep the boy calm and told him, "I used to climb trees a lot when I was a kid."

As they waited for a ladder, Martin realized the boy just needed some encouragement to climb back down without one.

His mother said, "He's going to have a good time telling his dad this story tonight."
