8-Point Buck Flattens Man at ‘Dead' Concert

Bucking buck attacks man at The Mann

Matt McFall was up for anything at Saturday night’s Further concert. That is, until an eight-point buck left him down for the count.

Now his friends call him “Buck Rogers.”

The foreman for Delaware Metals was packing up his coolers with about 1,000 other people in a parking lot at Philadelphia’s Mann Center just before the band founded by Grateful Dead members began to play. Suddenly, a large male deer came charging through the crowd from the nearby woods.

“He avoided everybody, he ran around everybody, when he came to me I actually took a defensive stance and put my fists up,” McFall told 102.9 MGK’s John DeBella Wednesday morning. “He tried to jump over me and ended up kicking me in the side of the head.”

The swift kick to the head caused a fractured jaw, concussion, and a lump on the side of McFall’s head that stuck out past his ear, he told DeBella.

Despite 15 minutes of disorientation, in which McFall “didn’t know who I was or where I was,” the Further fan did what he came to do.

“When I finally got my ground again, and knew where I was and who I was, I went into the concert,” McFall told the morning radio show.

On Monday morning, McFall was back at work, getting ribbed by his co-workers about the bizarre deer attack.

“Aw man, I’m being called everything from Buck Rogers to Bambi,” McFall said. “They asked me if I was taken away in the ‘bambulance.’ They’ve even got a little jingle they’re singing around here.”

And to the tune of “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer,” McFall sang his friends’ newly crafted song:

“Matthew got run over by a wild deer, partying at the parking lot at the Dead. You might think it was a hallucination, but as for me I saw the lump on Matthew’s head.”
