92 Years Later, Lehigh Valley Native, US Rugby Look to Defend Gold

It's taken men's rugby 92 years to get back in the Olympic Games, and on Tuesday, Allentown's Chris Wyles and his American teammates will look to keep the gold medal with the United States -- yes, the U.S. won gold in rugby at the 1924 Olympics in Paris.

After an opening 17-14 loss to Argentina, the U.S. men will need to wait a few hours for their first Olympic win in nearly a century. The U.S. team came back in its second match with a 26-0 win over Brazil keeping its hopes alive of advancing to medal matches.

Since launching a legacy program in Rio de Janeiro in March 2015, World Rugby says more than 115,000 students are playing regularly in more than 450 schools and 1,450 coaches and teachers have been trained, plus 60 referees.

"We want to expand sensibly, we want it to be sustainable," World Rugby chairman Bill Beaumont said. "We want to be here in Brazil in 10 years' time and say the 2016 Olympics was a catalyst to establishing the game in this country."

Michael Phelps Golden for 20th & 21st Time

A rejuvenated Michael Phelps took home the gold in the 200-meter butterfly final Tuesday night after he took silver in London in 2012.

South Africa's Chad Le Clos failed to medal in the race after beating him in London.

The most decorated athlete in Olympic history, Phelps added another gold in the Men's 4x200-meter freestyle relay to bring his total golds to 21 -- that's as many as the entire country of Ethiopia has earned.

Simone Biles & Co. Shoot for Gymnastics Gold

It’s not easy being the favorites. Now Simone Biles, Aly Raismsan, Gabby Douglas, New Jersey’s Laurie Hernandez and Madison Kocian look to defend Team USA's 2012 Olympic gold. [[388401331, C]]

The team is headlined by Biles, who could win as many as five gold medals in Rio. The 4-foot, 9-inch gymnast has dominated the sport since her debut in 2013 and is the first female gymnast since 1974 to win four consecutive all-around titles at the U.S. national championships.

The team would live up the hype beating out Russia (silver) and China (bronze) with a total score of 184.897.

Delran, New Jersey’s Carli Lloyd and Team USA closed out preliminary round matches with a 2-2 tie against Colombia.

Lloyd, the team’s captain, failed to score in the game for the first time in the Olympics.

Despite the tie, the U.S. still won its group.
