Veterans Day Goes High Tech with Apps

Honoring servicemembers is going high tech this Veterans Day with the help of new online resources and smartphone apps.

There's a new website dedicated to veterans from ancestry.com called The Honor Wall.

The site, based on more than 20 million records and personal memories uploaded by loved ones, honors every service member who served from current wars all the way back to the Revolutionary War. The Honor Wall documents letters home, photos and awards of veterans at www.FOLD3.com/wall.

A lot of local businesses are thanking Veterans for their service by giving them free stuff on Veterans Day.  

Militarybenefits.info lists discounts, sales and everything free for vets and their families, ranging from free Brazilian steakhouse dinners to haircuts and oil changes. They've even posted a meal guide of deals for not only veterans, but also active duty and retired military.

Many offers require a valid military ID or proof of military service.

GOOGLE MAPS 400,000 GRAVES AT ARLINGTON:


There's also big attempt to create a virtual map of one of our nation’s most somber symbols.

Google cameras have started photographing Arlington National Cemetery with plans to use its Street View technology to present a virtual tour of the graves. Online users will be able to zoom in and read grave markers and see a 360 degree view of the cemetery, accordng to reports.

The photos won't be online until next May, which marks the cemetery's 150th anniversary.
