Beach Tags Now Just a Tap Away in Some Jersey Shore Towns

Three New Jersey towns are letting people purchase beach badges with their smartphones.

Sea Isle City, Longport and Ventnor are among the first towns to offer an app that lets visitors make the purchase on the spot.

Sea Isle City chief financial officer Paula Doll tells The Press of Atlantic City people may not have cash, credit cards or checkbooks in their beach bags, but they'll have their phones.

"If you’re on the beach and you forgot to get it ahead of time, you can use your phone to make your purchase on the spot," said Doll. "It’s another convenience for our customers."

She says the app also gives people the chance to purchase beach beaches now at preseason, discounted prices instead of the full price after the season starts.

Sea Isle City earned little more than $1 million from beach badge sales last year.
