Getting Registered to Vote Now a Click Away in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania is now the 23rd state to provide online voter registration.

Thursday's launch of the Internet-based system was promoted by Gov. Tom Wolf and Secretary of State Pedro Cortes during a news conference at the suburban Harrisburg headquarters of the Pennsylvania County Commissioners Association.

"For counties, especially, it's about cost savings," said Wolf.

The system will enhance democracy and hopefully increase voter participation in elections, said Wolf.

Cortes, Pennsylvania's elections chief, also said the online system will improve the accuracy of the voter rolls and make registration more convenient.

The officials said the online system is authorized by laws dating back more than a decade, not any new mandate. They said the administration worked with legislators from both parties in shaping it.

People who want to register online can start now by clicking here.
