Comcast Customers Can Now Access Wi-Fi Hotspots in Europe

Since 2012, Comcast’s Xfinity Connect App has been offering voice and Internet customers the opportunity to make and receive calls, or send and receive text messages, for free using Wi-Fi -- even while abroad.

Now the Philadelphia-based media giant is seemingly stepping it up a notch with a new partnership with Liberty Global Inc., an international television, broadband Internet and telephone service. The two companies have entered an agreement that will allow Americans and Europeans to use the millions of Xfinity Wi-Fi and LGI Wi-Fi hotspots for free when traveling in eight countries including the United States, Belgium, Poland and Switzerland, among others.

Comcast has more than 3 million Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots in the U.S., and LGI has more than 2.5 million Wi-Fi access points under the Wi-Free and WifiSpots names in various countries in Europe, a press release said. Comcast customers will be able to use LGI’s Wi-Fi access points in Europe, and on the flip side, LGI customers will be able to use Comcast’s Wi-Fi hotspots while in North America. The plan is expected to be in action by 2015. Read full story here
