New Jersey Resident Wants His App to Connect Fans With Interests

Have you ever wanted to connect with complete strangers based on what you all like?

A New Jersey man, along with his business partner from New York, noticed that people wanted this and created an app called “Livid,” where users can connect to each other based on their commonalities and also connect with artists.

“[We wanted] a social media app that connected fans with their interests,” New Jersey's Ray Gordon said. “We’re all connected through our commonalities.”

In 2013, while working with students in Atlanta during a Teach for America appointment, New York's Corey Wooten asked his students what they wanted from an app. His students told him they wanted to be able to text their favorite rappers, and to be able to connect with performers that they loved.

Wooten told Ray Gordon about what his students wanted, and in February 2014 Gordon came up with the idea for Livid. Gordon and Wooten discussed how to make it easier for people to connect with each other based on their common interests.

Wooten said they wanted to create an “all-inclusive app where fans are the focus.”

On the app, users join communities called “loops,” which are all based on the interests of the user.

The developers planned to push Livid at this weekend's Made in America Festival along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia.

The app isn’t solely based on entertainment and celebrities. Users can connect through their interests in sports, politics, and even popular brands.

Livid is free for download in Apple's App Store. Gordon and Wooten said they plan to expand to Android in 2016.
