“MIOkay?” Your iPhone Will Know

Smartphone app will help answer the question "Am I OK?"

MIOkay claims to make your iPhone into your own personal security device -- on the ready to alert your contacts if something is wrong.

"Everyone has had that moment where they're walking down the street and they don't feel too safe or they're just unsuree of the area or maybe they're not familiar with it," Phiadelphia-area native Sean Weiland, the CEO of MIOkay US told NBC10's Vince Lattanzio. "Then MIOkay allows them the ability to get help if something were to happen."

This is how it works: When you first open the application, you must enter phone numbers and e-mails for your Top 3 emergency contacts.

If you should ever feel that you are in danger, then all you need to do is open the app and a 60-second timer will silently start to count down. To reset the counter just simply touch the display screen of your smartphone.

A phone call and e-mail with your exact location will automatically be sent to your first emergency contact when the timer runs out. The second and third options will only be notified if the previous person does not answer.

In circumstances when you are facing imminent danger, activate the slider and your phone will instantly send out the emergency notification.

MIOkay will automatically send the emergency dispatch out if your phone breaks.

This app is available for purchase in the App Store for $1.99. Android and Symbian versions will be available soon, according to the company.

The app doesn't call 911.
