Villanova Goes on Upset Alert

No. 2 Wildcats start run of tough Big East games with rival Seton Hall

The No. 2-ranked Villanova men's basketball team should probably be on the lookout for Pirates.

Seton Hall and Villanova will add another chapter to their historic rivalry Tuesday night when they take the court at The Pavilion. It will mark the 99th meeting between the Pirates and Cats -- The most times Nova has faced any opponent.

Just last season the Cardiac Cats hardly escaped The Rock with an 89-85-overtime nail-biting win at the Prudential Center in North Jersey.

Revenge could be on the Bucs’ minds.

Jay Wright's Wildcats come into the game as one of the marquee teams in the nation at an impressive 19-1 -- having won 10 in a row -- ranked No. 2 in all the land.

Scottie Reynolds is the unquestioned leader of the Cats. The guard is averaging 18.7 points per outing. The 6-foot-2 senior and junior Corey Fisher form arguably the best backcourt in the country as they have led that Cats to a conference-high 85.2 points per game.

It’s got to be dark in Villanova, simply because this team has shot the lights out all season. They have scored 70-plus points in all but two games.

The Pirates have struggled to a 3-5 Big East record (12-7 overall) but that doesn't mean they are pushovers.

Jeremy Hazell leads a Seton Hall team with only two seniors on the roster. The junior guard ranks second in the Big East with 22.5 points per game. Senior-sized sophomore Herb Pope, 6-foot-8, 236 pounds, leads the Big East with 11.4 rebounds per game.

Last week the Pirates suffered a heart-breaking 76-74 overtime loss to the University of Southern Florida. But, they also have a defeat of No. 22-ranked Pittsburgh under their belts.

The Pirates shouldn't be taken lightly. But then again no one is taking the Cats lightly.

Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
