With Markelle Fultz, Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid in the fold, the Sixers have one obvious need: Shooters.
And now they're linked to one of the most prolific three-point shooters of the last decade. The Sixers are expected to make "a hard push" for Los Angeles Clippers guard J.J. Redick, according to the Ringer's Kevin O'Connor.
They'll have company. O'Connor also mentions the Brooklyn Nets as a strong suitor. Both teams are armed with cap space and can give Redick a huge role. It's worth mentioning that Redick recently bought a home in Brooklyn.
The Sixers' could use their young core to appeal to Redick (because the Sixers are apparently becoming a destination). The 11-year veteran is 32, but shooters tend to last in the NBA. Ray Allen hit 38 percent of his threes during his age 38 season. Reggie Miller shot at a 40 percent clip from distance at the same age.
Short-term money isn't an issue for the Sixers. If they can sign Redick to a deal that doesn't hamstring them on the backend, it could align perfectly with the team's rise to contention.
Last season Redick averaged 15 points per game and shot 43 percent from three. In 2015-16, he shot a healthy 48 percent from three to lead the NBA.

For his career, Redick has shot 42 percent from three on 4.4 attempts per game. He's averaged 11.9 points in 24.9 minutes a game.
NBA free agency begins on July 1.
