Report: Carmelo Anthony – Not a Fit Whatsoever – Considered Sixers

Quick: Let's try to come up with the least ideal veteran fit possible for the Sixers.

Luckily, a Sixers pursuit of Carmelo Anthony is unlikely.

According to longtime NBA reporter Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, Anthony had been considering waiving his no-trade clause to go to the Sixers or Wizards.

Anthony has a full no-trade clause - a rarity in the NBA - meaning he controls his own destiny. If Anthony didn't, Phil Jackson certainly would have traded him by now rather than constantly talking to the media about trading him.

Anthony has two years and $54 million remaining on his contract, which escalates by $8 million if he is traded. But no move has yet been worked out despite the Knicks' repeated efforts, and at this point Anthony seems intent on staying in New York or at least the East Coast to be close to his family.

Thus, the slight interest in playing for the Sixers or Wizards. (Sorry, Brooklyn.)

The likeliest scenario still seems to be the Knicks' buying out Anthony or simply releasing him and Anthony heading to Cleveland to team up with LeBron James to try to oust the Warriors.

As for the Sixers, adding a player like Carmelo would be illogical. He's a great scorer, a Hall of Famer, but the last thing the Sixers need with their exciting young core is a ball-dominant forward who specializes in iso-ball and is passive defensively. You probably didn't need me to tell you that.
