Tonight's Lineup: Howie Kendrick Returns in DH Slot, Odubel Herrera on the Bench

For those eyeing the trade deadline a few weeks down the line, take a deep breath. Howie Kendrick is back in the Phillies' lineup.

After a hamstring issue kept him out for most of the series in Arizona, Kendrick is back DHing for the Phillies in Seattle on Tuesday night. With his .361 batting average, Kendrick is one of the team's veteran trade chips. His return, albeit in a DH role and not in the field, is a good sign for his health and trade value - and for the Phillies' lineup that's struggled mightily of late, scoring four runs in the last three games combined.

Odubel Herrera, who had been dropped lower than usual in the lineup last week, now gets a day off. He brings a 10-game hitting streak to the bench, but any bright spots have been dimmed by costly mental mistakes. So much so that Phillies manager Pete Mackanin fined Herrera for an incident in Sunday's game, sources told CSNPhilly.com's Jim Salisbury (see story).

Freddy Galvis wants the team to "(bleeping) play harder every single day," (see story). He'll bat second and have a chance to spark the rest of the order.

Cameron Perkins could use a spark himself. He's back in the lineup at the eight spot after not starting Monday. Since coming up to the majors, Perkins has two hits in 23 at-bats.

On the mound, Aaron Nola will try to build off one of his best major-league starts. Nola pitched a gem against the Cardinals last Thursday, going 7 1/3 innings and allowing just six baserunners with eight strikeouts. He'll face Seattle left-hander James Paxton, who after a strong start to the season, has allowed 15 runs in his last 13 innings.
