Tonight's Lineup: Cesar Hernandez (foot) Out Again; Ryan Howard Bats 5th

Leadoff man Cesar Hernandez is out again for the Phillies Friday night to rest his foot, which he injured with a foul ball earlier this week. For the second straight game, Odubel Herrera leads off and is followed by Freddy Galvis.

The Phillies are hoping Hernandez doesn't miss much time. He's been an on-base machine atop their order lately, hitting .352 with a .429 OBP since June 23, a span of 48 games.

Ryan Howard, who's homered in three of his last four starts, remains at first base against Cardinals right-hander Adam Wainwright. Howard bats fifth.

Carlos Ruiz is in the lineup to catch Adam Morgan. Ruiz has had plenty of success in his career against Wainwright, going 8 for 19 with three doubles (see game notes).

Aaron Altherr moves up from seventh to third in the order after going 2 for 4 with a pair of singles, an RBI and a stolen base Thursday. Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said Thursday that he moved Altherr down because he doesn't want his young hitters to think they've cemented themselves as middle-of-the-order bats; he wants them to continually earn those spots in the lineup.
