Ruben Amaro Jr.'s Nephew Andrew Joins La Salle Baseball Coaching Staff

Andrew Amaro, the nephew of former Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr., will join La Salle baseball's coaching staff for the 2017-18 season.

The 24-year-old Bensalem native and former Penn Charter standout will be La Salle's recruiting coordinator and the top assistant coach to David Miller.

"I am thrilled to welcome Andrew to my staff," Miller said in a statement. "With the experience that he brings both as a player and coach, as well as his familiarity with Philadelphia, I have no doubt that he will play a large role in what we are trying to accomplish with the La Salle baseball program."

Amaro was an assistant coach at the University of Delaware this past season. Prior to that, he played three seasons at the University of Maryland before transferring ahead of his senior season to Division II Tampa, the team the Phillies have played at the beginning of spring training the last several years.

After hitting .320 with Tampa, Amaro was drafted in the 35th round by the Phillies in 2011. He played 20 games at the lower levels of the organization that summer and then joined Tampa's coaching staff.

"I'm extremely excited to join the coaching staff at La Salle," Amaro. "I look forward to building a winner here in my hometown of Philadelphia with Coach Miller."
