With all the trade talks surrounding Phillies starter Jeremy Hellickson, it may be one of the team's relievers that will be on the move.
The Giants have one of their top scouts in town for the Phils' series against the Marlins, according to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick. Per Crasnick, San Francisco has their eye on closer Jeanmar Gomez and veteran David Hernandez.
Gomez, despite blowing his most recent save opportunity, has been one of the biggest bright spots for the Phillies this season. His ERA sits at 2.82 and he's converted 25 of 28 possible save opportunities. He's done it unconventionally, striking out only 29 batters in 44 2/3 innings.
The opposite has been true of Hernandez this season. An early favorite to capture the closer job in the spring, Hernandez has struggled with his command. Over his last 14 appearances, Hernandez has posted an 8.79 ERA, allowing 21 hit and nine walks. For the season, he has a 4.43 ERA.
The Giants' bullpen could certainly use the boost. As a team, they currently lead the league in blown saves with 19. Normally reliable relievers like the team's closer Santiago Castilla and veteran lefty Javier Lopez have struggled with inconsistency and former closer Sergio Romo has fought injuries.
The trade deadline is August 1.
