Phillies Left-hander Mario Hollands Outrighted to Double A Reading

The Phillies on Wednesday outrighted left-handed reliever Mario Hollands to Double A Reading, three days after designating him for assignment.

Hollands was DFA'd on Sunday as the Phillies made room on their 40-man roster for Rule 5 lefty Daniel Stumpf. Stumpf's 80-game PED suspension ended on Sunday and the Phils needed to clear a space to reinstate him from the restricted list.

Hollands, 27, is attempting a comeback from Tommy John surgery that cost him all of last season. He's made three appearances for High A Clearwater, eight for Double A Reading and eight for Triple A Lehigh Valley, posting a 3.76 ERA with 25 strikeouts in 26⅓ innings. He'll now pitch out of the 'pen for Reading, which leads the Eastern League with a 63-27 record.

Hollands made 50 appearances for the Phillies back in 2014, going 2-2 with a 4.40 ERA and 1.40 WHIP. He had a 2.10 ERA in his first 32 appearances, but struggled to an 8.47 mark over the season's final three months.
