MLB Notes: Mets Put Matt Harvey on DL With Shoulder Discomfort

NEW YORK -- Struggling pitcher Matt Harvey was placed on the disabled list Wednesday by the New York Mets because of right shoulder discomfort.

The team announced the move in a news release after reporters had left the clubhouse following New York's 4-2 victory over the Miami Marlins.

Harvey was put on the 15-day DL, retroactive to Tuesday. He was seen by team doctors and referred to Dr. Robert Thompson for further examination Thursday in St. Louis, the Mets said.

The former ace had been scheduled to start Saturday night at Citi Field against Max Scherzer and the NL East-leading Washington Nationals. It's uncertain who will pitch in his place (see full story).

Blue Jays: Estrada to miss ASG with sore back
TORONTO -- Blue Jays right-hander Marco Estrada has gone on the disabled list because of a sore lower back and will not play in the All-Star Game.

Estrada, who left Saturday's start after five innings because of back pain, still intends to travel to San Diego and participate in All-Star festivities. The first-time All-Star was put on the DL, a move retroactive Sunday.

"My worst nightmare came true, unfortunately," Estrada said Wednesday. "In the long run, this is the right thing to do."

Estrada, a 33-year-old right-hander, is 5-3 with a 2.93 ERA in 16 starts (see full story).

White Sox: Avila on DL with strained hamstring
CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox have placed catcher Alex Avila on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring.

They also purchased catcher Omar Narvaez's contract from Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday and transferred reliever Jake Petricka to the 60-day disabled list to make room for Narvaez on the 40-man roster.

Avila left Tuesday's game against the New York Yankees with the injury. He is batting .236 with three home runs and six RBIs in his first season with the White Sox.

Narvaez is batting a combined .239 with Charlotte and Double-A Birmingham and has thrown out 12 of 48 attempted base stealers this season.

Petricka had season-ending surgery on his right hip last month.

D-backs: Lamb comes into clubhouse for Jake Lamb campaign
PHOENIX -- I'm not kidding ewe. The Arizona Diamondbacks really did bring a lamb into their clubhouse to fire up the All-Star voting campaign for third baseman Jake Lamb.

Lamb, and the lamb, posed patiently for pictures prior to Wednesday night's game against the San Diego Padres.

Pitcher Rubby De La Rosa even got the lamb to wear a sombrero and sit in Lamb's locker. And the lamb, obtained from a local petting zoo, left a memento on the floor of the Diamondbacks dugout.

Lamb is one of five players up for the final spot on the National League All-Star team. Fans will decide in a vote that closes Friday.

Maybe it will be Lamb in a "Lambslide."
