LOS ANGELES -- Jonathan Schoop doubled in the go-ahead runs with two outs in the 14th inning, lifting the Baltimore Orioles to a 6-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday in a game that included a stadium-record 36 strikeouts.
Schoop drove in Manny Machado and Chris Davis, who had consecutive singles, when center fielder Trayce Thompson tried to make a backhanded diving catch and the ball rolled well out of his reach.
Chase Utley had a career-high six hits for the Dodgers, who struck out 18 times. Thompson fanned four times as did newly minted rookie All-Star Corey Seager, whose double in the seventh extended his hitting streak to 19 games, longest in the National League this season.
Utley became the first Dodger with that many hits since Shawn Green in 2002 (see full recap).
Nationals use 3 HRs to beat Brewers, avoid sweep
WASHINGTON -- The Washington Nationals returned to form and generated some momentum for their showdown with the New York Mets.
Bryce Harper hit the first of Washington's three home runs, and the Nationals overpowered the Milwaukee Brewers 7-4 Wednesday to avert a three-game sweep.
Jose Lobaton and Ryan Zimmerman also connected for the NL East-leading Nationals, who open a four-game series Thursday night at second-place New York before heading into the All-Star break.

Flores hits 2 HRs, deGrom pitches Mets past Marlins
NEW YORK -- The way Wilmer Flores is hitting, it appears he plans to stay on the field -- regardless of Jose Reyes' arrival.
Both infielders were in the lineup Wednesday and teamed up to lead the Mets past Miami 4-2. After the game, however, New York put struggling right-hander Matt Harvey on the disabled list with shoulder discomfort.
Flores homered twice, Jacob deGrom pitched seven strong innings and the Mets won for the sixth time in seven games. Reyes had a pair of doubles for his first big league hits this season and keyed a two-run rally in the third.
"He creates a lot of problems at the top of the lineup," New York second baseman Neil Walker said. "He's going to be important for us setting the table for the guys in the middle,” (see full recap).
Barnhart's 3-run HR lifts Reds over struggling Cubs
CHICAGO -- The bullpen flopped, the offense disappeared late and the Chicago Cubs again couldn't escape their worst funk this season.
Tucker Barnhart hit a go-ahead, three-run homer off Trevor Cahill in the seventh inning, and the Cincinnati Reds beat Chicago 5-3 Wednesday -- the Cubs' 12th loss in 17 games.
A day after having seven players selected for next week's All-Star Game, the Cubs lost to the last-place Reds for the second time in three days and dropped below Texas for the best record in the major leagues.
"I can't connect a bunch of negative dots. It just happened," manager Joe Maddon, who believes this poor stretch is more a "snapshot" than a sign of bigger problems (see full recap).
