It wasn't all that long ago that the Eagles were sitting at 3-0 with the appearance of a surefire playoff team following a dominating 34-3 win over the Steelers Week 3.
Losers of four out of their last five, with three of those losses coming to NFC East opponents, the Eagles now have the look of a completely different team as they sit at 4-4 and face a steep uphill climb towards a playoff berth.
The Eagles' 28-23 loss to the Giants on Sunday dropped them to 0-3 in the divison and 2-4 in the conference with matchups against the Falcons, Seahawks and Packers on the horizon.
As the Eagles' playoff chances have trended downward, so has their standing in national power rankings. This week the Birds fell back into the middle of the pack of the league in nearly all power rankings heading into Week 10.
Here's a roundup of where the Eagles landed in this week's national power rankings:
NFL.com's Eliiot Harrison: Down two spots to No. 10
"Well, Doug Pederson must've heard the complaints about him being a Conservative Connie (in a football sense, not politically)," Harrison wrote. "A week after taking heavy criticism for not stepping on the gas pedal in Dallas, Pederson played to the masses and went for it on two key fourth downs in the first half ... and got stuffed on both. At least his special teams unit made up for it by allowing a blocked field goal on another first-half possession. Those empty trips to the Giants' side of the field cost the Eagles the game. Is it just me, or do Carson Wentz and Jordan Matthews often seem to not be on the same page?"

Yahoo Sports' Frank Schwab: Down four spots to No. 15
"I’m not quite sure why the Eagles have given up on Ryan Mathews," Schwab wrote. "He has played just eight snaps in each of Philadelphia’s last two games, with Darren Sproles getting almost all of the action. Mathews hasn’t been great but he hasn’t been bad either. The Eagles could use a better running game instead of asking quarterback Carson Wentz to do it all."
FOX Sports' Cameron DaSilva: Down five spots to No. 16
"After a scorching hot start, Carson Wentz and the Eagles have cooled off a bit, falling all the way to 4-4," DaSilva wrote. "Their struggles have mostly come on offense, but cornerback is a weak spot of the defense and isn’t likely to improve. They have one of the toughest remaining schedules with only one opponent having a losing record."
CBS Sports' Pete Prisco: Down seven spots to No. 17
"Two road losses the past two weeks has this team reeling," Prisco wrote. "Now they face a good Atlanta team at home."
USA Today: Down four spots to No. 18
"Carson Wentz has six turnovers in last five games. Doug Pederson is eschewing field goals. Rookie growing pains all over the place in Philly."
The Washington Post's Mark Maske: Down seven spots to No. 18
"Doug Pederson, the rookie head coach, pushed all the right buttons early in the season while his rookie QB, Carson Wentz, played error-free football," Maske wrote. "Now Pederson’s decisions are backfiring and Wentz is throwing interceptions. No one should have expected it to go entirely smoothly all season. If the league has adjusted to what Pederson and Wentz were doing, they must adjust right back."
ESPN: Down eight spots to No. 18
"82 percent: The Eagles started the season 3-0 and had an 82 percent chance of making the playoffs, according to NFL FPI. That was fifth best in the NFL at the time,
"29 percent: Since dropping four of their next five, the Eagles' playoff chances have dipped to 29 percent, according to FPI, 16th in the NFL. The Eagles have the second-hardest remaining strength of schedule (.602)."
